UntangleMyWeb.com was created in August 2007 by Fabienne Rabbiosi, a Swiss IT, tourism and marketing expert.
Having worked at Gold Coast Tourism leading their market intelligence unit for 2 years prior to UntangleMyWeb.com Fabienne had met and worked with many tourism operators and regional organisations around Australia. It was through her dealings with tourism operators on a daily basis that Fabienne began to see the need for an affordable marketing strategy tailored to tourism businesses.
Traditionally domestic and international travellers used travel agents and read brochures to plan their holiday. Tourism businesses had to invest their marketing dollars in print (catalogues) and in developing relationships with travel agents and wholesalers to capture this market. However, over the past 5-10 years it's becoming the norm to research and book travel online. The International Visitor Survey (IVS) from Tourism Research Australia shows that over the last 3 years there has been a 10% increase in Internet tourism bookings and that 37% of international visitors to Australia book online. Google's Australian travel and tourism unit statistics reveals that 95% of people holidaying in Australia use the Internet to plan and research their holiday.
